Chapter IX: |
country is not populated solely by those who feel some masochistic need and desire to flounder below the poverty-line, the evidence of which can be seen in the nations true number-one-pasttime, the Lottery. Money cannot buy happiness? It would seem to Me that many enjoy having nice houses and beautiful vehicles. The general preference is for savory meals provided by 5-star cooks, not choke-it-down 5-for-a-buck microwavable instant dinners. And there is something to be said for experiencing favorite movies or television progams on a color 32"-plus flatscreen Sony Trinitron instead of making do with five "viewable" channels on a black and white 13" pawnshop special! These points and more all convey, to MySelf at least, aspects of happiness and comfort afforded only by good ol' American currency. Even the destitute and derilect recognize the important role money plays in the continuance of their unproductive, unfulfilling lives. Vagrants and transients are seen to spend their days "at the office" standing on street corners, one hand gripping a crude cardboard sign bearing a personalized message of woe and despair. Of course the other hand is held out, palm up to accept donations from suckers who are just glad to have an opportunity to flash their goodguy badge! In the face of all this, the continued slander against money. Why? Partly because of religious moral dictate. People are taught by their ministers and preachers that money is the "root of all evil." Obviously, this hasn't stopped the churches from taking as much as they can, and without the moral fortitude to give back through taxes. After all, churches, too, thrive on money, their austere fortresses of cinder block and white paint beckoning those who fear and loathe life. Those houses of God did not build themselves, did they? Nor did they spring up from the ground, green and budding, after a particularly nutrient-rich rainfall! And what of those shiny high-end vehilcles seen in repose in church parking lots come sunday morning or wednesday night? Each and every aspect of church, from the clothes on the congregants backs to the manner of how they got there, products of that green tinted Satanic Contract, the Almighty Dollar. Hail to thee! |
