...because the day Jesus died was indeed a Good Friday, it was determined to be good enough to warrant excuse for a sacreligious party! After all, so says the Bible: ![]() April 21st, 2000...that was the day that started it all. My wife at the time (Anita) and I had taken it into our heads to exploit that day formally known as Good Friday. The celebration was born from the proposed t-shirt/bumper-sticker idea of our friend Scott: "The Day Jesus Died Was A Good Friday." We were so amused by the double entendre that we felt moved to base a party around the holiday. I got to work on developing a flier, while Anita scoured all available sources for music that had Christ themes, both in positive and negative contexts...as well as devising thematic gimmicks to amuse and offend. It was a great deal of fun in the preparation. The party was a success, having a larger than anticipated turn-out, not to mention a surprise visit from the Late J.C. himself! The Muddled Messiah appeared at our doorstep and, upon gaining entry, performed a wonderfully amusing rap entitled My Sac-religion. Having enjoyed the success of that party, Anita and I determined that we would do our part to make it a yearly tradition. Now, several years later, the party is still going strong on an annual basis, each year migrating from one host/location to another. It is a dream of Mine to someday hold the GFCeleb in a club that could accommodate a large crowd and just flier the town, taking the Good Friday Soiree to an entirely different level! DJs and a bar, maybe even work out some kind of drink special for the evening! Yes, someday... As for now, this section deals with each year, showcasing the fliers that I had put together for the events, and (when available) photos taken. Once upon a time, it had been My intention to include a written summary of each party's highlights, but after the second year I'd pretty much forsaken that idea. The first year summary is plenty for Me, as it was the initiation of this wonderful tradition and sets the stage for the years to follow. Follow the dates below to see highlights of each event: |
